Roads to ease traffic congestion in Seri Kembangan
The Star - 29 Dec 2011 --> http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file=/2011/12/29/central/10127235&sec=central
WHILE the daily traffic snarl along Jalan Besar in Seri Kembangan continues, several plans have been put into place to improve the traffic flow in the township.
First of all, the much-awaited link from Jalan Putra Permai to the Maju Expressway (Mex), which was first proposed in 2007, has finally been approved.
Serdang MCA chairman Datuk Liew Yuen Keong announced in October that the Cabinet had agreed in principle to build the link, and the construction was estimated to cost RM90mil.
At the same time, there was also a proposal to link Jalan Putra Permai to the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE).
This was brought up by Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching and Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah in October.
Meanwhile, a 17km Serdang-Kinrara-Putrajaya Expressway (Skip) is also in the pipeline to link the three townships.
Starting from the Giant hypermarket in BK5a in Puchong, the highway will head towards Taman Lestari Perdana and eventually link to the South Klang Valley Expressway and Besraya Highway.
Subang Jaya municipal councillor Ng Sze Han revealed that the construction of this expressway would start end of next year and was expected to be completed in 2016.
Ean Yong has also brought forward a proposal to widen the 50m stretch of Jalan Besar near the Sungai Besi Expressway.
He said the road was classified under Class F – the worst congestion level.
The proposal, which involves adding another lane to the two-lane road, will be submitted to the Public Works Department (JKR).
While Seri Kembangan residents wait for these plans to materialise, a flyover connecting the Bukit Jalil Highway and Taman Serdang Raya has finally opened to traffic in November.
Motorists travelling from the highway into Seri Kembangan can now get into Jalan Serdang Raya without having to wait at the traffic lights.
First started in December 2006, the project by the Works Ministry was handed over to another contractor in March this year when it was 70% completed.
The previous contactor was terminated in July last year because it had failed to deliver the project on time.
