A PROPOSED link from Jalan Putra Permai in Serdang to the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE), cutting through Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), will ease traffic congestion in the township.

This is the latest traffic plan to ease congestion in the area in addition to the 17km Serdang-Kinrara-Putrajaya Expressway (SKIP) and the access road from Jalan Putra Permai to the Maju Expressway (MEX).

Serdang residents are all too familiar with the traffic nightmare during peak hours when they exit via Jalan Besar to Kuala Lumpur or enter Seri Kembangan via Jalan Putra Permai.

According to Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah, the Economic Planning Unit (EPU), Malaysian Highway Authority and the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) were proposing a new traffic integration to the government.

“The traffic integration is expected to be completed in 2015 or 2016.

“There are about 100,000 people living in Serdang and the main roads — Jalan Besar and Jalan Putra Permai — are congested,” he said.

SKIP will have three main toll plazas and two on the ramps. There will be two entrances, from Sungai Besi Highway at Serdang Lama and from UPM.

Both are toll-free, however, there will be a toll plaza between Seri Kembangan and Kinrara.

The Serdang link to Mex is expected to cost RM90mil.

Also at the press conference were Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching and MPSJ councillor Ng Sze Han.
