Seri Kembangan residents want link to MEX
The Star - 01 March 2010
FORMER Serdang MP Datuk Yap Pian Hon said a link from Jalan Putra Permai in Seri Kembangan to the KL-Putrajaya Dedicated Highway, now known as the Maju Expressway (MEX), will help ease traffic flow in and around the town.
The proposal for a link was first brought up in April 2006 when all 24 Subang Jaya municipal councillors gave their full support during a council meeting.
This was during the tenure of then council president Datuk Mohd Arif Abdul Rahman.
The link proposal was also supported by the various residents association and former Puchong MP Lau Yeng Peng.
The residents in the area now have once again called for a link to be built for them to access the highway although it was made clear then by the highway concessionaire Konsortium Lapangan Terjaya Sdn Bhd that the highway would be built from the Kampung Pandan roundabout in Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya without any links in between.
For smooth traffic flow: The Salak South Interchange leading to the Maju Expressway.
However, changes were later made to include links in Taman Miharja, Salak South and Kuchai Lama, all three in Kuala Lumpur, wheras no links were planned for more than 12km stretch of the highway that would pass through Selangor.
“That was more than five years ago when the area was still developing.
The situation is different now as the area has developed tremendously and further worsened the traffic flow,’’ said Yap.
He said it was learnt that it could cost about RM25mil to build the access linking Jalan Putra Permai to MEX.
Yap, who is also the Serdang MCA parliamentary services and co-ordination chief, said in the initial planning stage, there were also no plans to develop the Putra Permai township and that now the traffic situation was worsening in Jalan Putra Permai as motorists used the route to access the KL-Seremban highway.
“The main road in Seri Kembangan is already congested and the link to MEX could provide motorists with a shorter and faster route to the city,” he said.
Yap said he had written to the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) about the problems faced by motorists along Jalan Putra Permai.
“I propose that the concessionaire and the many housing developers in the township work out a deal and bear the cost of construction. The Government can also extend the concessionary period,” added Yap.
Motorists who were once using the Jalan Putra Permai/Jalan Besar route to the city are now heading towards the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) as the Seri Kembangan town is congested during peak hours. The Putra Permai area is also fully developed and the number of vehicles on the road is expected to increase, adding to the existing traffic chaos.
Yap said the link to the RM1.2bil dedicated highway was the only solution to overcome bad traffic jams in both the Seri Kembangan and Putra Permai areas in the future.

Appeal to open a link for Seri Kembangan to MEX.
I would like to appeal to the State Govt or The Highways Authorities to open up MEX for Seri Kembangan , Putra Permai and all the surrounding residents in the area. RM1.2 Billion was used to build a highway linking Kg Pandan to Putrajaya only. What a waste of public fund? Why not open up the MEX for more people to use other than just only for ppl from Putrajaya to Kg Pandan and Kg Pandan to Putrajaya. Why waste when the concessionaire can easily earn more money from willing travellers who wish to travel to Seri Kembangan , Lestari, Putra Permai, Taman Equine, Puchong from KL or vice versa.?

Appeal to open a link for Seri Kembangan to MEX.
With more and more residents in Bandar Putra Permai. the access via Giant and traffic light at Sirim are no longer able to handle the volume. the jam during peak morning hour could be hour. Would appeal to Selangor STate Government to consider 'ramp' in and out to the highway or open a link for seri kembangan to MEX. It has been years with no development we wll support whatever political party that help to solve our traffic light problem, land title problem, safety problem, better road and lightning condition here would get our few thousand votes during the next General Election. A petition may be workable.
