Ring road in Seri Kembangan

THE problem of traffic congestion in Seri Kembangan, especially along Jalan Besar, will be a thing of the past with the construction of a ring road to be funded by the state government.

Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah said although Jalan Besar was a federal route, the state government was willing to fund the project with part of the main artery in the township turned into a one-way street.

He said the Selangor Public Works Department had conducted a study and the ring road would follow an alignment that did not need land acquisition or compensation.

“Work has already started on the 2km-long ring road and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

“The RM36mil project will be financed through the RM300mil Selangorku grant,’’ he added.

The one-way street starts from Jalan Raya 1 and Jalan 1/10 while part of Jalan Besar in front of the market will be turned one way to complete the ring.

Ean Yong said the entire project was divided into four phases with the first stage starting from Jalan 1 and Jalan 1/10 and the one-way traffic in Jalan Besar would allow motorists heading towards Serdang Raya and South City Plaza via the ring road project.

“We hope motorists will have a smooth drive home once the ring road is completed,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Ean Yong said residents and the business community in Serdang Raya had a reason to smile after waiting for more than 10 years.

All 21 internal roads were resurfaced recently at a cost of RM400,000, also financed through the Selangorku grant.

He said residents had complained of poorly-maintained roads and the Subang Jaya Municipal Council completed the road resurfacing work last week.
